Meet Miranda Macias

Miranda Macias is a musician and educator in Knoxville, Tennessee. She has recently joined Symphony of the Mountains as the new Second Bassoon. After completing her undergraduate studies in Bassoon Performance and Music Education at Southern Methodist University, where she studied with Wilfred Roberts of the Dallas Symphony, she began her studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Richard Svoboda, principal bassoonist of the Boston Symphony.
As a young musician, Miranda has already gained a significant amount of experience playing great repertoire under the baton of esteemed conductors. She has performed with orchestras such as New World Symphony, McKinney Philharmonic Orchestra, and Mesquite Symphony Orchestra. She has performed several times in some of the best concert halls in the country such as Carnegie Hall in New York City and Symphony Hall in Boston, MA. She has also recorded two albums during her time in The Orchestra Now at Bard College.
Miranda is also very passionate about chamber music and education. During her time at SMU, she was on staff with a non-profit organization called Bridge the Gap Chamber Players as the Director of Education. During her time with BTG, she oversaw and ran an after-school elementary music programs at multiple elementary schools in Dallas ISD. She also helped organize weekly public chamber performances at Mockingbird Station in Dallas, After graduating, she joined The Side-by-Side Project, a nonprofit organization that specializes in giving students the opportunity to rehearse and perform with professionals.
Miranda is the bassoonist in Trio Linda, a bassoon, oboe, and piano trio chamber group that has performed in the Boston and New York area. We are excited to expand into the Knoxville area and hope to foster future collaborations.
Miranda loves to perform with others and hopes to bring that unique sense of joy, accomplishment and connection to her students and the musicians with whom she has the privilege of making music.
